You must adhere to the following rules when posting on our Forums. Posts that break these rules will either be edited or deleted. Those who break the rules will be warned, punished, or banned. Punishments will be decided on a case-by-case basis.

1. A forum is a place where you can interact with people from all over the world. This will lead to the exchange of ideas that you may not completely agree with. It is OK to debate others and defend your point of view, however there is a fine line between doing it in a respectful way and making people feel unwelcome. By all means stand up for what you believe in but do it in a way that won't lead to unfriendly and bitter rivalries. We should all be friends here so please argue accordingly.

On that note try to be respectful and welcoming of new users, especially those who are new to HEMA. When they post questions for advice provide straight answers.

2. Avoid using excessive amounts of profanity. This is a board for all age groups and we all know that some words or phrases aren't appropriate for everyone. If you have a really good argument, 'bad' words aren't necessary to get the point across.

Do not insult other users of this forum using slurs, such as racial or sexual epithets. Do not attempt to argue about whether you believe a slur is insulting or not.

3. Posting URLs / back-links into threads: Only leave links to other websites (including YouTube) that clearly add to the conversation taking place in a thread.

Any blatant and irrelevant promotion within a thread will be removed, and the poster will be warned and possibly banned. While it's fine to have a very relevant link in your signature, don't try and increase the visibility of your signature by posting very short answers to questions.

4. Listen to the moderators. They are here to help answer questions and make conversations run more smoothly. You can find them by clicking the members button at the top. All moderators have green text for their names. Don't hesitate to message them with any questions or concerns.

5. Please remember that we are not responsible for any messages posted. We do not vouch for or warrant the accuracy, completeness or usefulness of any message, and are not responsible for the contents of any message. The messages express the views of the author of the message, not necessarily the views of this forum and owners of the website. Any user who feels that a posted message is objectionable is encouraged to contact us immediately by email. We have the ability to remove objectionable messages and we will make every effort to do so, within a reasonable time frame, if we determine that removal is necessary.

6. You agree, through your use of this service, that you will not use this forum to post any material which is knowingly false and/or defamatory, inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, harassing, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of a person's privacy, or otherwise in violation of any law.

It is permitted to engage in mature conversations and discuss frustrations with certain organizations and the individuals who may run them -- so long as this is done in a constructive way intended to result in improvements that benefit the growth of HEMA as a hobby, sport and/or method of historical research and study.

Witch hunting, crusading and other kinds of coordinated harassment campaigns are not allowed on this forum. If you have a personal grief with someone that is unrelated to HEMA you should deal with it privately and directly. If you suspect or accuse someone of engaging in criminal behavior of any sort you should report it to law enforcement and not this forum.

This forum shall not be used to spread unsubstantiated accusations based on hearsay. Posts which are created with the sole intention of ruining personal reputations and request the blacklisting of individuals from participation in events within the HEMA community will result in a 1 week temporary ban as a warning; a 2nd attempt to break this rule will result in a permanent ban.

There are several other forums for people in HEMA who want to engage in these kinds of witch hunts against others in the community; this forum is NOT one of them.

7. You agree not to upload or post any copyrighted material unless the copyright is owned by you or by this BB. To clarify this rule, you cannot transcribe the contents of someone else's novel and paste the text into a post hosted on our forums, but you are allowed to post a link to someone else's YouTube video as that content is hosted elsewhere.

8. Do not post links to piracy websites. This includes bittorrents to download cracked (warez) software movies, music, books or games.

9. Impersonation is not allowed:
  • a. Do not pretend to be someone that you are not. Should you do so, we will ban your names, your IP, your email addresses, and whatever else we need to assure that it doesn't happen again.
  • b. These forums are intended to be a community to communicate about our mutual interests in HEMA, not to pretend you are someone else and defame them because you feel the need to do so.
